Resources to Learn Telerik Test Studio

by Rich Winslow | Sep 18, 2011

I've been following the Telerik testing tool since it was first released and I've been testing software one way or another since 1978.  I was very excited about the Telerik offering, but I struggled with how to make it run consistently for one reason or another.  In the end, it all came down to learning how to properly use Telerik's Test Studio (formerly WebUI Test).  I've gone after documentation, videos, forums, and Telerik Technical Support; Dan Levy has been very helpful!  Still, it was a painful journey.  Now that we have tested custom ASP.Net applications and Sitefinity websites with this testing tool, released the software, upgraded the software, and retested these applications, we've felt and dealt with the gamut of issues one has to consider when maintaining automated test scripts.

I thought it would be beneficial to capture those resources that have allowed me to understand the concepts and apply those concepts in the use of the software.  You can have all the blog entries, example videos, detailed reference guides you want, but unless you understand the big picture and how it all fits together, all the rest becomes a haphazard search.

Since new training material is being released continuously, my plan is to update this blog entry as new material becomes available.  It is important to note that the product has changed substantially over the last year, so older references can be misleading.  Also note that there are 2 products (Visual Studio version and Standalone version) with a slightly different user interface.

So here is my list of useful resources:

  1. Quck Start Guide - much more than a quick start guide
  2. July Test Studio Training video - serves as a concept guide
  3. Test Studio Full Documentation - a useful reference guide
  4. Getting a test to pass through a dropdown RADMenu
